Haiti Education and Financial Literacy Initiative
Did you know? Four out of five primary schools in Haiti are private. Tuition, even in the lowest-cost private schools, is unaffordable for low-income families, especially for those living in rural areas characterized by poverty rates of 82 percent (77 percent living in extreme poverty).
Education and economic self-sufficiency are the umbrellas for all that Action Bridge does. With a GDP per person of $673, Haiti is the poorest country in Latin America and the Caribbean and one of the world’s poorest countries, according to World Bank. In Haiti, we sponsor students to attend school by paying for enrollment, providing lunch, transportation, and uniforms fees for families that cannot afford the expenses. Once the child is enrolled in the “Education Sponsorship Program”, we work with their parents by providing financial coaching and microloans to support entrepreneurship opportunities to empower families to become self-sufficient.
